Abstract

1,088,450. Variable resistors. R. HOPT. Jan. 12, 1966 [Jan. 29, 1965], No. 1447/66. Heading H1S. [Also in Division H3] A variable potentiometer unit for tuning television receivers (see Division H3) comprises resistance tracks 16, 17 (Fig. 1) mounted on opposite sides of an insulating plate 14 and wiped by sliders 24, 25 whose other ends engage conducting strips 18, 19 respectively for tapping off the voltage. The sliders are mounted on insulated drums 20, 21 and the shaft 9 can be moved axially to operate a switch (not shown). In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the block 20 has a cross-section comprising two semicircles of different diameters forming a cam (57 co-operating with a roller (73) on a pivoted arm, so that the switch is operated automatically at the mid-point of traverse of the sliders. An arrangement of peripheral cams can also be associated with the resistance track of Specification 1,088,539 to operate switches at predetermined angular positions of the slider.
