Description

System for fixing an auxiliary member driven by pulleys and a belt and in particular an alternator on an automobile engine.
The method of fixing the electric generators of motor vehicle engines on their support must make it possible to adjust the tension of their drive belt. This adjustment is often made by pivoting the generator around one of its fixing screws, its locking in the desired angular position being achieved on the one hand, by tightening the screw which serves as its articulation axis and, on the other hand, by tightening a bolt carried by another fixing lug and passing through a slide articulated on the support of the generator.
However, this slide, because of its constitution, only contributes very little to the mechanical strength of the fixing of the generator which is practically fixed cantilever. It is therefore necessary that the single or both articulation lugs of the generator are very largely dimensioned, because of the significant vibrations to which it is subjected.
The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks; to this end, it relates to a system for fixing an auxiliary member driven by pulley and belt, and in particular an alternator on an automobile engine, a system in which the auxiliary member is provided on the one hand with a pierced tab serving for its attachment and its articulation, and on the other hand, on the side opposite this tab, an ear comprising a curved slot concentric with the hole of the aforementioned pierced tab, this slot or slide having the possibility of sliding on a screw which passes through it and is fixed on a support whether or not integral with the engine, so as to allow adjustment of the tension of the belt driving this auxiliary member, before tightening on the support of the slide by the aforementioned screw, and to the bracket by the fixing bolt serving as a hinge pin.
This arrangement makes it possible to obtain a rigid fixing while minimizing the overhang, and a simple adjustment of the tension of the drive belt of the alternator.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, in the case where the auxiliary member is an alternator, the latter is placed on one side of the engine and has its pulley forward in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the alternator is placed on one side of the engine, and has its rear face on the front of the vehicle. This arrangement allows the alternator to benefit from the natural ventilation produced by the movement of the vehicle.
In any event, the invention will be well understood, with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing showing, by way of non-limiting example, two embodiments of this fixing system.
Figures 1 and 2 are. front and top plan views of a first embodiment of this fastening system in the case of its application to an alternator of a motor vehicle engine. Figures 3 and 4 are front and top plan views, in partial section, of another embodiment of the invention.
The alternator 2 shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises, on the one hand, a lug 3 pierced with a hole 6 and, on the other hand, on the side opposite this lug, a lug 4 comprising a curved slot 5, concentric with the axis of the hole 6 passing through the tab 3.
It is fixed to a support plate 7 by a bolt 8 passing through the bracket 3, and by a screw 9 passing through the slot 5.
This support 7 is wedged between the engine 10 and the water pump casing 12; it has a clearance 11 allowing the movement of the alternator 2.
On the shaft 13 of this alternator 2 is wedged a pulley 14 driven in rotation by a belt 15 also passing over a pulley

Ce support 22 comporte deux bossages 23 et16 wedged at the end 17 of the drive shaft of the water pump, this belt being driven by another pulley not shown and wedged on the end of the crankshaft. Thanks to this arrangement, the alternator 2 is rigidly fixed on the support 7. In addition, before tightening the bolt 8 and the screw 9, the first serving as an articulation axis and the second as a guide rod in rotation, it is possible to easily adjust the tension of the belt 15, by moving the alternator 2 in the direction of arrow 18, in figure 1. Figures 3 and 4 show another embodiment, in which the alternator 2 is arranged so as to present its rear face 19 towards the front of the vehicle. By this arrangement, the natural ventilation caused by the displacement of the latter, cooperates with that generated by the fan 20 with which the alternator is equipped. The same elements as the previous example are found in this variant, only the support 7 is replaced by a support 22 acting at the same time as a water pump casing. This support 22 has two bosses 23 and 24 munis chacun d'un goujon 25 et 26 permettant la fixation de l'alternateur. RÉSUMÉ24 each provided with a stud 25 and 26 for fixing the alternator. The belt tension is adjusted in the same way as in the previous example.
