Abstract

The centrifugal pump is electrically driven to circulate the washing fluid for an automotive windscreen washer or headlamp washer. The centrifugal rotor of the pump carries a tapered rod extending into the inlet pipe to improve induction of the washing liquid and to prevent noisy operation as the pump wears. The electric motor (12) is supplied through push-on terminals, and has its shaft (14) oriented vertically. The shaft couples to the centrifugal pump rotor (18). The rotor has a tapered, star section rod (26) attached to it and projecting into the fluid inlet tube (22). The fluting of this rod improves the induction of liq. from the reservoir into the pump chamber (16), and gives quieter operation.
