Keinokasteluputki
Kastelu tapahtuu yleisemmin avo-ojilla tai veden suih-kuttamisella ilmaan, jolloin maa kastuu pinnalta päin. 10 Lämpimällä ilmalla haihtuminen on suuri, josta on seurauksena suuri veden hukka. Kuumassa ilmanalassa ja paikoissa missä vettä ei ole runsaasti käytettävissä menetelmää ei voida lainkaan käyttää ja maa autioituu. Kun vesi johdetaan maanpinnan alapuolelle kasvin kasvi-15 syvyydessä suoraan sen juuristoon, on vedentarve minimoitavissa. Tätä on yritetty käyttämällä revitettyä putkea, mutta tavanomaista revitettyä putkea myöten vuoto tapahtuu suorassa suhteessa putken pituuteen rajoittaen täten tämän menetelmän käyttöä. Lisäksi avonai-20 set rei'ät tukkeutuvat helposti.
Käytössä on myös maahan upotettava kasteluputki, jossa putkessa sen pituussuuntaan on tehty läpimeneviä viiltoja siten, että pienellä paineella viillot pysyvät kiinni, jolloin putkea voidaan käyttää veden siirtoon mutta 25 paineen kasvaessa viillot avautuvat päästäen vettä tällöin viillon läpi ympäröivään maahan kastellen sen. Putki toimii erinomaisesti uutena ja ehdottoman puhtaalla vedellä, mutta vanhetessaan, jolloin putkeen väkisinkin kertyy vedessä olevia epäpuhtauksia, alkavat myös 30 toimintahäiriöt viiltojen sulkeutumisessa. Putkeen tehdyllä viillolla on se ominaisuus, että paineen kasvaessa ja viillon avautuessa se avautuu enemmän putken sisäpuolelta ja vähemmän ulkopuolelta. Tästä on seurauksena, että epäpuhtaudet kiilaantuvat viiltoon, jolloin alkuun 35 yksittäiset roskat estävät viillon sulkeutumisen ja lopulta, kun roskia kertyy riittävästi, viilto tukkeutuu ja putki tulee käyttökelvottomaksi.
