Abstract

A method and a shelter arrangement for temporary covering of an open deck space (1) on a watercraft. Said open deck space (1) is provided with a shelter arrangement comprising a flexible protective covering (5), which is tightened in a first direction by means of a plurality of supports (4), which may be gathered side by side for storing and moved in a second direction, principally perpendicular with respect to the supports (4), to be placed at a distance from one another for setting up the shelter arrangement in order to cover said open deck space (1). The ends of the supports (4) are provided with a guiding arm (10), which determines the mutual distance between the supports (4), when the shelter arrangement is in its outspread position, and pushes the supports (4) located ahead of it into the collapsed position of the shelter arrangement, when the shelter arrangement is being packed together.

The invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1 and to a canopy arrangement according to the preamble of claim 7 for temporarily covering the open deck space of a water craft.

10 Particularly on the top decks of cruise ships, it is well-known to have swimming pools, sun decks and spa areas. Despite the potentially variable weather conditions, there is a need to provide reasonable accommodation for passengers in such spaces. This can be achieved by using temporary removable canopies. It is previously known for this purpose to use glass transition skylights with steel or aluminum support structures. However, the known structures are quite heavy, which raises the ship's focus and thus weakens the stability of the ship. In addition, such structures take up quite a large amount of space when packaged and require robust transfer mechanisms and securing devices. Therefore, their implementation is quite difficult.

The object of the invention is to provide a novel solution for temporarily covering the open deck space of a water craft, which minimizes the problems of the prior art. In particular, it is an object of the invention to provide a solution based on a movable canopy arrangement which, on the other hand, is lightweight and low in configuration, and which is simple, fast and reliable to move. It is a further object of the invention to provide a solution which enables the canopy to be spread in a simple manner so that it only partially covers the open deck space in question, as the case may be.

The objects of the invention are mainly achieved in the manner detailed in claims 1 and 7 and in the other claims.

The open deck space is provided with a canopy arrangement including a flexible guard 5 which is tensioned in a first direction by a plurality of brackets which can be assembled adjacent to each other for storage and displaceable in a second substantially perpendicular to the brackets to open the canopy. A suitable protective cover can be quite light, while the support brackets required for tensioning it and spreading it in the open position can be quite light and take up little space. The protective cover may be made of plastic, fabric or other similar material, and may also preferably be light transmission.

Said open deck space is provided with opposed edges of rail-like guide elements 15 which guide the support supports when the canopy arrangement is unfolded and assembled.

According to the invention, the ends of the support supports are provided with a guide arm which defines the mutual distance of the support supports with the canopy arrangement open in its extended position. In this way, the spaced-out part of the canopy arrangement is simply tensioned, giving it a stylish appearance, no bang in the wind and no pockets of water in the event of rain. Said steering arm is also used to push the remaining support supports when assembling the canopy arrangement.

An operationally advantageous solution is obtained when the outermost portion of the canopy arrangement in the unfolding direction is provided with a control arrangement, for example two brackets, which are fixedly connected at a distance from each other. Thus, the spreading of the canopy arrangement to the desired position of said control elements in said second direction and assembly into a storage space can be achieved in a simple and controlled manner.

Preferably, the ends of the bracket supports are provided with a support arm that receives control from the control element to maintain the bracket in an upright position. This way, the bracket-5 supports will be kept upright independently.

The protective cover may advantageously be divided into sections which are independently supported by adjacent support supports. This allows each component to be replaced independently of each other as needed.

At the end of said open deck space, a storage space can be provided in which the storage arrangement can be easily moved into its assembled position when it is not needed.

In addition, a service trolley unit movable in said second direction may be provided to maintain the roof arrangement above it.

In the drawings, reference numeral 1 denotes the open deck space of a water craft, which may be, for example, a swimming pool compartment or a sun deck. At the edges of the deck space there are support structures 2 provided with rail-like guide elements 3. These support a plurality of movable support supports 4, which in turn support a flexible protective cover 5 so that it is tensioned parallel to the support supports. At the end of the lid space 1 is a storage space 6, in which the protective cover 5 and the carrier supports 4 are assembled as shown in Fig. 1, when it is desired to keep the lid space open. Similarly, when it is desired to partially or completely cover the deck space, the protective cover 5 and the support supports 4 are extended as shown in Figure 2.

Figures 3-8 show a more detailed structure of the canopy arrangement. The bracket supports 15 have an arcuate portion 4a having at its ends substantially vertical portions 4b. The support bracket 4 includes a support element 4c extending over its entire length to which the guard cover 5 is attached. The structure allows the cover to be divided into parts which are independently secured to the support element 4c, for example by means of bolts, whereby the individual parts of the cover are interchangeable as required. The vertical parts 4b are provided with rollers 7 which cooperate with the rail-like guide element 3. Further, the support bracket part 4b is provided with an obliquely positioned support arm 8 which holds the support support 4 independently in an upright position. Also at the end of the support arm 8 is a guide roll 9 which is supported on the guide element 3.

Figures 5-7 illustrate how the support element 4c of the support bracket 4 extends over the entire support bracket and thus also forms part of the vertical part 4b of the support bracket. At each end of the support element 4c there is a pivotally supported guide arm 10 with a guide roll 11 at one end. The guide arms 10 determine the mutual distance of the support supports 4 with the canopy arrangement in its extended position and keep the guard cover 5 in place. In addition, when assembling the canopy arrangement, the guide arms 10 in the storage space 6 push the remaining support supports. The storage space 6 comprises a guide member 5 6a for arranging the guide arms 10 in its assembled position as shown in Fig. 2.

In the direction of unfolding of the roof arrangement, the outermost part comprises two supporting elements 4, which are fixedly connected to each other at a distance from the other. In this way, the canopy arrangement can be easily and controlled spread out to the desired location of the control elements 3 and, respectively, can be assembled back into the storage space.

Figures 9-11 show the arrangement of a separate service trolley unit 12 over a canopy 15 arrangement. For the service trolley unit, the supporting structures 2 are provided with separate control means 13. This allows easy maintenance of the canopy arrangement and monitoring of its condition, whereby, for example, part of the washer cover can be replaced as previously described.

The invention is not limited to the embodiments shown, but many variations are conceivable within the scope of the appended claims.
