Abstract

A device for discharging liquid metal, which comprises: a stationary plate 21 to be mounted in the bottom of a container which receives the molten metal, said plate 21 having an orifice 21c for the passage of the molten metal and a sliding plate 22 which can be moved slidably along a lower face of the stationary plate and is adapted so as to open or close the passage orifice by means of its sliding movement with respect to the stationary plate, in which a circumferential wall of the passage orifice in the stationary plate is made from a dense refractory material and the circumferential wall made from the dense refractory material has a series of orifices 27 for the supply of gas to the passage orifice which present less of an obstruction hazard and also are more resistant to corrosion through the action of the molten metal.
