SE HACE PASAR ENERGIA INFRARROJA DE TRES LONGITUDES DE ONDA A TRAVES DE LA MUESTRA RECOGIDA. SE ELIGE UNA PRIMERA LONGITUD DE ONDA DE ENERGIA INFRARROJA, POR EJEMPLO DE 3,95 MICRAS, QUE SEA INSENSIBLE A LA ABSORCION, TANTO POR EL COMPUESTO ABSORBENTE DE ENERGIA PREDETERMINADO, TAL COMO EL ETANOL, COMO POR LOS COMPUESTOS ABSORBENTES DE ENERGIA DESCONOCIDOS, TALES COMO LA ACETONA Y EL VAPOR DE AGUA. SE ELIGE LA SEGUNDA LONGITUD DE ONDA DE ENERGIA INFRARROJA, POR EJEMPLO DE 3,48 MICRAS, QUE SEA NOTABLEMENTE ABSORBIDA POR EL ETANOL.
