Abstract

At least one permanently installed annular conveyor installation (7) such as a bucket wheel is provided in the ship's hold (3) adjacent the engine room (2). The axis of rotation of the installation (7) or wheel extends parallel to the ship's longitudinal axis. A cargo belt (6) extends in the ship's hull (4) in the region of the hold (3). Cargo on the cargo belt (6) is fed to the annular conveyor installation (7) which has a plurality of skips arranged to raise the cargo upwardly and discharge it to discharge devices (12, 14) located near the top of the annular conveyor installation (7).
