Abstract

One or more collector barges 1, each having a collecting device 2 for taking up oil or other contaminant material, in the vicinity of the level of the water line, are towed by at least two tugs 3, 4 which form an angle diverging in the direction of travel of the barge(s), so that the sides of the tugs act as booms to channel floating oil towards the barge(s).
