EL PROCESO DE REALIZAR EN UNA CELULA DE ELECTROLISIS, EN LA CUAL EL RECINTO DE ANODO Y EL RECINTO DEL CATODO ESTAN SEPARADOS ENTRE SI POR UNA MEMBRANA INTERCAMBIADORA DE CATIONES. EN EL RECINTO DEL CATODO SE COLOCA UNA SOLUCION QUE CONTIENE SULFATO DE METAL O SULFATO DE METAL-CLORURO DE METAL Y EN EL RECINTO DE ANODO SE COLOCA UNA SOLUCION DE CLORURO DE MAGNESIO, DE SODIO O DE POTASIO. DURANTE LA ELECTROLISIS LOS IONES DE MAGNESIO, DE SODIO Y DE POTASIO, FORMADOS EN EL RECINTO DE CATODO A TRAVES DE LA MEMBRANA INTERCAMBIADORA DE IONES. EL METAL SE SEPARA EN EL CATODO, MIENTRAS QUE EN EL ANODO SE DESPRENDE CLORO.
