CONSISTENTE EN QUE UNA SOLUCION DE UNA HIDROXILAMINA SUSTITUIDA DE FORMULA RONR''2 EN LA QUE CADA R'' ES HIDROGENO O UN GRUPO DE HIDROCARBURO O HIDROCARBURO SUSTITUIDO, O NR, REPRESENTA UN ANILLO ORGANICO QUE CONTIENE NITROGENO, SE PONE EN CONTACTO CON AL MENOS UN CATODO DE UNA CELULA ELECTROQUIMICA, HACIENDOSE PASAR UNA CORRIENTE ELECTRICA ENTRE DICHO CATODO Y UN ANODO. EL CATOLITO COMPRENDE, PREFERIBLEMENTE, UN DISOLVENTE PARA LA HIDROXILAMINA SUSTITUIDA, UNA FUENTE DE CONDUCTIVIDAD ELECTRICA Y UNA FUENTE DE PROTONES. TIPICAMENTE EL ANOLITO COMPRENDE UN ACIDO MINERAL FUERTE ACUOSO, POR RAZONES DE COSTE Y EFICACIA SE PREFIERE UN CATODO DE PLOMO. COMO ANODO SE PUEDE UTILIZAR CUALQUIER METAL RECUBIERTO DE OXIDO, ADECUADO EN LA ELECTROLISIS DEL AGUA ACIDULADA, TAL COMO UN RECUBRIMIENTO DE OXIDO DE PLOMO SOBRE PLOMO.
