Abstract
A four row header for converging cut crop from four rows into the throat of a forage harvester comprises five crop dividers which form the entrances to four passageways 47, 49, 51 and 53, in the front parts of which are oscillating blade cutters 163, 165, 167 and 169. The passageways are provided with conveyor belt pairs 63, 65, 67 and 69 for feeding the cut crop up the passageway, into the harvester throat, between upstanding infeed rollers 59 and 61. The conveyors on each side of the longitudinal centre line A-A are tilted transversely inwardly and downwardly assisting in converging the crop from as many as four rows into a standard harvester throat. The inner conveyor pairs overlap the outer conveyor pairs with the inner belts, eg 101 and 117, sharing a common rear drive shaft 102. The outer belts 107 and 129 of the inner conveyor pairs terminate short at the rear so that the passages 65 and 67 merge into the passages 63 and 69. The conveyors are supported from and driven from two sealed gear cases joined along the centre line and enclosing gear trains through which all of the illustrated shafts at the rear ends of the belts are driven. Further gears provide the drive to the cutters. The rollers 59 and 61 are on the shafts 89 and 149 for the rear ends of the outermost conveyor belts 87 and 125. The front ends of the conveyors, although canted inwardly, are all at the same level.
