Abstract

1401632 Cabbage harvesters H BLEIN ROTH 29 June 1972 [5 July 1971] 30459/72 Heading A1F To facilitate severing a cabbage's head from its stem, a cabbage harvesting machine has two substantially parallel feed augers 1 and an overlying endless belt 4 whose rotational speeds are synchronised with that of a ground wheel 7 of the machine. The two augers 1 and belt 4 are both driven by a hydraulic motor 5 to which oil is delivered from a pump (not shown) by way of a rotary oil metering device 6 of the fixed abutment, internally meshing, gerotor type which is driven off the ground wheel 7. The augers 1 are subdivided into a rear and a front section 1A which has a smaller pitch than the rear section and the augers plus the belt. 4 are floatingly suspended by a chain 8 so as to be moveable laterally and thereby accommodate deviations from a straight line in a row of cabbages. Towards their rear, the augers have openings 13 to receive a band cutter 14 (as shown) or a reciprocating cutter (not shown). The spacing between the augers 1 is adjustable by devices 15 and means 17 permit vertical adjustment of drive pulleys 18 of the band cutter 14. The endless belt 4 is preferably of the chain, transverse bar type and is tensioned by rollers on spring biased levers 9 and 11.
