Abstract

C2-8alkanoyloxymethyl 7-[2-(2- aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-(hydroxy or methoxy)iminoacetamido]-3-methyl- 3-cephem-4-carboxylates (syn isomers) are readily absorbed through the digestive tract and converted in vivo to the corresponding carboxylic acids, which have outstanding antibiotic properties. These esters may be prepared by acylation of the corresponding acyloxymethyl 7- aminodesacetoxycephalosporanate, by esterification of the corresponding acid or by conversion of an undesired acyl group at the 7-position of a cephalosporin compound to the desired 7-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2- (hydroxy or methoxy)iminoacetyl] group.
