Abstract

Flowable material is thermally treated, e.g. dried, using heated contact surfaces in a fluidised bed, the fluidizing gas being generated in the bed itself thereby reducing heat losses, reducing the amount of gas discharged and enabling higher temperatures to be generated in the bed without risk of the material burning.
