Abstract

The sliding arm (5) which acts as a stay to support a hinged flap in a horizontal position, for e.g. a cupboard, passes through a guide at the top which also acts as a brake as the flap nears its horizontal position. The arm slides through a slot (21) in a bush (13) retained by a flange (20) on the inside of the cupboard. To close the slot, a serrated round nut (15) is screwed onto the slotted end of the bush. The upper part of the arm incorporates a twist, preceding its flanged over tip (12). This gives the braking action in the slot, and the braking force can be controlled by tightening or loosening the serrated nut.
