Abstract

In order reliably to prevent any unwanted movement of the plunger in the direction of injection after only part of the plunger return stroke has been travelled, the plunger is, after each completed casting operation, locked with the aid of a pressure in time with each step of the stepwise-actuated plunger return. For this purpose, a two-part locking element is provided, the parts (32, 33) of which are each provided with a recess (40, 41) for the plunger rod (24) of the plunger and which are arranged in series along the latter. The two parts (32, 33) can be displaced relative to one another and in a direction normal to the stroke direction of the plunger (23). Upon each step of the plunger return, one part (32, 33) is brought into engagement with the shoulder (241) of the plunger rod (24).
