Abstract

A herbicidal 4-(2-pyridyloxy) phenoxyvaleric acid derivative has the following general formula (I):- < IMAGE > wherein X is a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom Y is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom and Z<1> is a hydroxy group a (C1-C6)alkoxy group in which the alkyl moiety thereof may be substituted with 1 to 3 halogen atoms a (C1-C4)alkoxy- (C1-C4)alkoxy group a (C2-C4)alkenyloxy group a (C2-C4)alkynyloxy group a (C3-C6)cycloalkoxy group in which the cycloalkyl moiety thereof may be substituted with a (C1-C4)alkyl group a (C1-C4)alkoxycarbonyl(C1-C4)alkoxy group a phenoxy group in which the aryl moiety thereof may be substituted with 1 to 3 halogen atoms or a (C1-C4)alkyl group a benzyloxy group a glycidyloxy group a (C1-C4)alkylthio group a (C2-C4)alkenylthio group a phenylthio group in which the aryl moiety thereof may be substituted with 1 to 3 halogen atoms or a (C1-C4)alkyl group an amino group a (C1-C4)alkylamino group a (C1-C4)alkoxycarbonylmethylamino group a hydroxycarbonylmethylamino group a pyridine-2-ylamino group or an -O-cation.
