Abstract
Procedimiento de producción de magnesio por vía térmica mediante reducción a temperatura elevada de una substancia que contiene óxido de magnesio por un agente reductor cuyos productos de oxidación no son gaseosos a la temperatura de la reacción, cargándose la sustancia que contiene óxido de magnesio y el agente reductor en la superficie de un baño de escoria mantenida líquida por el paso de una corriente eléctrica en un recinto donde reina una presión superior a 1,8 milibares de modo que los vapores de magnesio contenidos se condensen al pasar al estado líquido, caracterizado porque una parte al menos del óxido de magnesio es aportada en forma de una materia residual que contiene al menos el 20% de óxido e magnesio.
