Abstract
Dispositivo electroquímico para medir la actividad del oxígeno en un metal alcalino que permite evitar los problemas descritos más arriba. Una característica particularmente destacada del presente invento, consiste en que en lugar de que el electrodo de referencia esté constituido por aire u otro gas, está constituido por una mezcla uniforme de concentración conocida de uno de los mentales tales como galio, indio y estaño, y de un óxido de ese metal, presentándose esta mezcla bajo forma líquida a la temperatura de funcionamiento del dispositivo y estando en contacto íntimo con el electrólito sólido. Esta mezcla ha demostrado ser particularmente útil como material del electrodo de referencia en razón de su estabilidad termodinámica y de su temperatura de fusión más baja compatible con una temperatura de funcionamiento más baja de un dispositivo de este tipo. Con el fin de eliminar la posibilidad de reacciones secundarias, el elemento metálico elegido para la mezcla será igualmente el metal del óxido.
