Abstract

Un método de inmovilización del cadmio producto de fisión generado en el material combustible nuclear de una composición de óxidos en forma de pastillas, que contiene por lo menos un isótopo fisionable, cuyo método consiste en poner en contacto con el material combustible nuclear una cantidad de un compuesto de desplazamiento químico, constituido por CuFe(sub, 2)O(sub, 4), CuTiO(sub, 3) o mezclas de los mismos, efectiva para inmovilizar el cadmio generado en la reacción en cadena de fisión nuclear del material combustible nuclear, mediante una reacción entre dicho cadmio y el citado compuesto de desplazamiento químico y evitar con ello la fragilidización causada por el cadmio en la vaina del combustible nuclear a las temperaturas de operación del reactor.
