Abstract
"METHOD FOR GALVANIZING AT LOW TEMPERATURES WITH BRIGHT NICKEL AND BRIGHTENING ALLOYS OF THE SAME", on a substrate and by passing electrical current through an aqueous acid galvanizing bath containing metal ions to be electrodeposited, while minimizing the amount of energy necessary to heat said bath to a suitable galvanizing temperature, whose method is characterized in that it comprises the provision of an aqueous acid galvanizing bath, endowed with a pH comprised between approximately 2.8 and 5.0 and containing, also approximately 25 to 60 g/liter of nickel ions, chlorine ions in a sufficient proportion to effect a satisfactory corrosion of the anode during the formation of said electrodeposition, an effective proportion of at least one primary rinse aid soluble in the bath containing a sulfo-oxygenated group, and an effective ratio of at least one secondary brightener sun uble in the bathroom, of formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein it is selected from the group consisting of H, CH2OH CH2OR2; R2 is selected from the group consisting of H, (CH2CH2O) nH, (CH2CH (OH) CH2) nH, (CH2) nSO3n (CH2CH (OH) CH2) nSO3M, (CH2CH2O) n (CH2CH (OH) CH2) -S03M and (CH2CH2O) n (CH2) nSO3M, where n is an integer from 1 to 10, n is an integer from 1 to 4 and M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, ammonium, alkali metal, nickel and cobalt; the maintenance of which galvanizing bath is established at a temperature comprised between approximately 85 and 115º F, while sufficient electric current is passed through said bath to pause the deposit of the desired metal on said substrate.
