Abstract
An insect-fighting device comprising a shaped solid body having a porous surface capable of gradually and continuously releasing 1,2-dibromo-2,2-dichloroethyl-dimethyl phosphate insecticide (hereinafter called naled) in a sufficient amount to provide an insecticidal active concentration of said naled over a prolonged period of time, said device comprising a synthetic resinous matrix material, from about 15 to about 35% by weight of naled and a lesser amount, effective to retard the release of the insecticide, of finely divided silica particles and at least one C14 to C20 saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid or one of its salts or esters, said device being formed from a mixture of said synthetic resin, naled, finely divided silica particles, saturated carboxylic acid aliphatic from C14 to C20 or its salt its ester and a component for controlling surface porosity which is not reactive with the mixture and has a boiling point equal to, or below, the curing temperature to produce surface openings in communication with pores in said body by vaporizing said porosity control component to provide a release of Naled gas at an effective rate to suppress insects in the vicinity of said body, but insufficient to form as exudate deposits on the body.
