Abstract

Procedure to prepare quinoxaline and quinazoline derivatives, of formula: **(See formula)** where Q represents a group of formula: **(See formula)** wherein the free valence can be at any of the 5, 6, 7 or 8 positions of the quinoxaline or quinazoline nucleus; (R1) x represents up to three optional substituents at any of the remaining positions 5, 6, 7 or 8, each R1 being a halogen atom or a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or trifluoromethyl group and x being a number from 0 to 3; R1 represents an optional substituent at any of the 2 or 3 or 2 or 4 positions of the quinoxaline or quinaxoline nucleus, respectively, where R2 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group; characterized in that it comprises heating a thioureido compound of formula Q-NHCSNH2 where Q is defined as above, to produce the corresponding isothiocyanate of formula Q-NCS; reacting the isothiocyanate with ethylenediamine, to form a β-aminoethylthioureido compound of the formula Q-NH-CS-NHCH2CH2NH2; cyclizing the β-aminoethylthioureido compound, to form the compound of formula (I); recovering the latter as a product optionally, converting the product into a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt.
