Abstract

Procedure and apparatus for treating continuously molded copper rod, which has an oxidized layer on its surface as it leaves the rolling mill, the process being characterized by comprising the steps of: (a) Passing said oxidized laminated rod at elevated temperature through at least one treatment zone comprising an open end conduit, to receive colder non-acidic liquid treatment composition therethrough; and (b) Continuously passing said colder non-acidic liquid treatment composition through said conduit, contacting the hot rod for a time sufficient to thermally shock said oxide layer and for this oxide layer to react with said liquid treatment composition, whereby said rod is simultaneously cooled and cleaned of oxide scale before being wound.
