Abstract

Process for preparing a wick composed of fibers having a great length of strand, comprising, in combination, a new breaking and mixing process, wherein a plurality of strands supplied are bent and stretched, and at least one subsequent process to stretch bundles of fibers and mix individual fibers together; and in said first method, a fleece of individual fibers are drawn by a drafting control element provided with double belts in a condition such that the drawing operation is controlled under positive contact pressure between said belts, so that any possible adhesion of individual fibers and the wick delivered by the aforesaid drafting element is composed of individual fibers with potential to move independently of the adjacent fibers during the subsequent drawing operation; in each subsequent process, a plurality of strands produced by the first method are bent and introduced into a drafting area in bundle condition, a bundle of individual fibers is led to a cubic drainage control area, formed in said drawing area, under a predetermined pressure, so that the speed of movement of said individual fibers, which move at a predetermined feed speed towards said drawing area, changes to a predetermined delivery speed of said drawing area when the front end of each individual fiber arrives at an anterior terminal of said drawing area, whereby the uniform drawing and mixing of individual fibers can be obtained.
