Abstract
A procedure for the oxidation of an oxidizable substance such as for example a metal sulfide, characterized in that the substance is reacted in a reaction zone with less quantity of nitric acid than what is theoretically required to effect the desired oxidation, the Nitrogen oxides formed in the oxidation retained within the reaction zone and reacted with oxygen and water in order to regenerate nitric acid.
