A method of preparing a new transparent gel, containing molybdenum and iron, characterized by reacting with stirring a solution of a molybdenum compound with a solution of a ferric iron compound, the concentrations of these solutions being between 0.1 and 2.5 atom-grams per liter for molybdenum and between 0.3 atom-gram per liter and saturation for iron, the reaction temperature being comprised between the freezing temperature of solutions and 30ºC, the respective amounts being of solutions such that the Mo/Fe atomic ratio is between 0.4 and 5.
