Abstract

A method of preparing a dye composition, which is to react an aqueous solution containing cystine or cysteine with a reagent consisting of: (i) a reducing agent that reduces cystine to cysteine and releases sulfide ions by itself or as a result of a decomposition reaction or by reaction with cysteine and (ii) a metallic compound that, in use, produces nickel or cobalt ions in water, leaving to react at room temperature for a few minutes until a complex of mixed cystine and cysteine ligands is formed with the nickel ion or the cobalt ion and the sulfide ion (S2-), with formation of a brown color.
