Abstract

Improvements in battery charging systems for vehicles, characterized in that the system comprises a battery that has a terminal connected to ground and a terminal under load, an alternator and an associated rectifier that produces a dc voltage between an output conductor and the mass, the output conductor being connected to the terminal under load of the battery, a voltage sensing conductor having one end connected to the terminal under load of the battery and its other end connected to ground through a diode and a chain of electrical resistance in series, a zener diode that couples a point of said chain of electrical resistance to the base of an input transistor, an output transistor connected in circuit with the inductor winding of the alternator, means that couple the input transistors and output so that the input transistor sends to the output transistor to regulate the output of the alternator, and a resistance to copla the connection of the diode and the electric resistance chain to the output conductor, being such the arrangement that normally said diode conducts and the alternator is regulated according to the voltage of the battery, but if the voltage between the output conductor and the mass rises above a predetermined value, the diode is reverse polarized and the alternator is regulated according to the voltage between the output conductor and the ground.
