Abstract

1333538 Supply systems for inductive loads INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 20 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 18405/72 Heading H2H In order to enable an inductive load 3, 4 to be supplied by either one of two alternating voltages applied to terminals 1, 2, a capacitor 5 is connected in series with the load, a semiconductor switching device 6 is connected in parallel with the capacitor and the gate of the device 6 is connected to a non-linear component 7. Thus if a high voltage is applied to terminals 1, 2, the current flowing through the component 7 is sufficient to gate the triac 6 on whereby the capacitor 5 is short circuited and the high voltage is applied to the load 3, 4. If the voltage applied to the terminals 1, 2 is low the current flowing in the component 7 is insufficient to cause gating of the triac 6 and under these conditions the inductive load 3, 4 resonates with the capacitor 5 such that the voltage applied to the load approximates to the high voltage value. The component 7 may be in the form of a voltage dependent resistor, two series opposed Zener diodes or a glow lamp.
