Abstract

Vehicle battery charging system, characterized in that it includes a generator that has an inductor winding, a battery that, in service, is charged by the generator, a voltage regulator by semiconductors to regulate the generator output, by means of the variation of the current flow through the inductor winding, and a protection circuit to prevent damage to the regulator by system overvoltages, said protection circuit including a voltage-dependent resistance connected in parallel with the regulator, said resistance being dependent of substantially non-conductive voltage during normal voltage conditions but conducting enough current during overvoltages to protect the regulator.
