Abstract
Improvements in systems for charging motor vehicle batteries, characterized in that the system comprises a multiphase alternator that has a plurality of output terminals, a full-wave rectifier that connects said output terminals to the vehicle battery so that when the alternator produces an output charging the vehicle battery, a series circuit connecting a first of said output terminals to the vehicle battery, said series circuit including a resistor, the base-emitter circuit of a transistor and the ignition switch of the vehicle, a warning light connected in series with the inductor winding of the alternator and a thyristor in the collector-emitter circuit of said transistor, means for supplying passing current to the thyristor as long as the battery voltage is below a value default and a set of diodes connecting the alternator output terminals other than that first output terminal to the circuit comprising the inductor winding and the thyristor, such being the arrangement that, when the thyristor is conducting, said set of diodes provides power to the thyristor and keeps the warning light off, but once during each revolution of the alternator, said set of diodes are all non-conductive and the transistor is turned off so that the thyristor can be turned off.
