Abstract
A process of isolation of high-purity α-6-deoxytetracyclines, from a reaction mixture, also containing an α-6-deoxytetracycline, reaction by-products, degradation products and eventually the β-isomer as impurities, characterized by the fact that the crude reaction mixture is acidified with a concentrated aqueous solution of a strong organic or inorganic acid and then heated to a temperature of 60 to 90ºC until the impurities are further degraded, and the α-6s are isolated -deoxytetracyclines almost selectively and in high yield from the reaction mixture, thus treated and cooled, precipitating it as a water insoluble derivative and subsequently isolating the α-6-deoxytetracyclines in a form comprising the amphoteric base, acid salts addition and calcium salt.
