Abstract

Hot dust-laden gases, e.g. the gases from a preheating stage wherein cement raw meal is preheated, are conditioned prior to entering an electrostatic precipitator by an addition in aqueous solution of a water-soluble alkalimetal salt. Suitable salts are the sulphates and chlorides of sodium and potassium added in amounts corresponding to between 0.05 and 2% of Na 2 O or K 2 O of the amount of dust in the gases.
