Abstract

A container for radioactive waste in the form of a mixture of water and solid material comprises an outer container 14 enclosing an inner perforated container 24, and an inlet conduit 40 dry powdered hardenable material, e.g. cement 18, is provided in the space between the outer and inner containers. In treating a resin-water slurry, vacuum is applied at 49 and the slurry admitted at 40 the liquid part of the slurry passes through apertures 31 to harden the cement while the resin is retained within container 24. The device may include a lead-steel radiation shield 12.
