Abstract
Improvements in the construction of safety devices to be used in combination with a tube bundle type liquid metal/water or steam heat exchanger designed to operate so that water/steam flows in the tubes and the liquid metal flows in the closed casing and over the tubes, characterized in that it has a duct in communication with the lower area of the casing, well below the operating level of the liquid metal in it, whose duct is directed to a container storage located at a lower level than the level of said casing, and a pressure relief device located in said duct, normally closing it, so that in the event of a tube failure in such a way that a reaction between the liquid metal takes place and the water/water vapor with hydrogen evolution, the resulting elevation of the pressure in the shell actuates the pressure relief device to open the conduit and also, together with the effect of gravity, forces the liquid metal out of the shell and into the storage container.
