Abstract

Apparatus for treating crushed fibrous stems containing marrow, for separating marrow and fibers, characterized by (a) a vertically disposed box, which forms a closed chamber, except in a feed opening located in the upper part of the box and a outlet at the bottom of the chamber, (b) a screening element having a substantially circular cross section, open at both ends, inside said box, with its upper end approximately in the same plane as the upper part of said box and mounted so that the feed opening of said box leads to the interior of the screening element, (c) a rotor assembly mounted coaxially with the interior of said screening element, said rotor assembly comprising a plurality of rotor plates, a hammer for each of said rotor plates, which extends laterally, very close to the screening element, said hammers being arranged in such a way that each one is displaced at a 90º angle with respect to the hammers located in the immediate next and/or immediate preceding plate, and (d) drive means for rotating said rotor assembly.
