Novel derivatives of 4-aminoantipyrine of the formula in which R is H or C 1-4 alkyl and X is H or CH 3 CO- are prepared by reacting the appropriate 4-aminoantipyrine compound with 4- methylaminobenzoic acid chloride or 4-(N- methylacetamido)-benzoic acid chloride in the presence of a base. 4-(N-Methylacetamido) benzoic acid chloride is obtained by reacting thionyl chloride with 4-(N-onethylacetamido) benzoic acid resulting from the acylation of 4-methylaminobenzoic acid with acetic anhydride. Therapeutic compositions, suitable for oral, rectal, topical or parenteral administration, contain the above novel compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. The compositions have anti-phlogistic, analgesic, antianaphylactic and anti-pyretic activity.
