1514718 Piperidine derivatives FERROSAN AB 15 Aug 1975 [15 Aug 1974] 35910/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formulae and acid addition salts thereof, where R and R 1 are H, C 1 -C 5 alkyl, C 1 -C 5 alkoxy, F, Cl, Br or CF 3 and R 2 is H or C 2 -C 14 acyl. Compounds of Formula IV may be prepared by reacting compounds of the formulae where Y is halogen or another reactive radical or by converting a compound of the formula or an ester thereof into the acid chloride and performing a Friedal-Crafts reaction with AlCl 3 and the appropriate benzene derivative. Compounds of Formula I may be prepared by (i) brominating a compound of Formula IV to introduce bromine in the 4-position on the piperidine ring, debrominating the product, e.g. with sodium methoxide in methanol to form a compound of the formula and hydrolysing, to form a compound of Formula I where R 2 is H, and subsequently acylating if desired, (ii) reacting a compound of the formula where X is OR 2 , either with a compound of Formula III to form a compound of Formula I or with a compound of the formula and selectively reducing the olefinic bond in the product to form a compound of Formula I. The compounds of Formula I and their salts have tranquilizing properties and may be used in the treatment of mental disturbances.
