Abstract

An agricultural tractor has a driven wheel 25 mounted to rotate with a tubular shaft 26 which has a smooth uniform bore for accommodating driving, control and support members of tools and implements used with the tractor. As shown, a single track tractor has a chassis 1 including a vertical mounting plate 11 in which the tubular shaft 26 is journalled by tapered roller bearings. The driven wheel 25 includes a disc 23 rigidly attached to the tubular shaft 26 and an internally-toothed rim 22. A pinion meshing with the rim 22 has associated therewith brake mechanism 29 and is driven through reduction gearing and belt-and-pulley change speed gearing 14 by an engine 8. A balance wheel 32 is carried by support means 31 comprising a horizontal member mounted by bearings in the tubular shaft 26 and a bracing member connected to the mounting plate 11. Figs. 4, 5 show a tool 33 carried by a stirrup member 35 attached to the tubular shaft 26 by means of a pin 36 which is secured in the shaft by a washer 38 and fixing peg 39 and carries anti-friction rings 37 which bear against the interior of the shaft. An adjusting screw 40 which bears on the mounting plate 11 provides for adjustment of the working depth of the tool 33. In Figs. 6 and 8 (not shown), a rotary cultivating tool having cruciform tines is carried by a shaft rotatably mounted in a housing carried by a sleeve which is supported in the hollow shaft by anti-friction rings and has secured thereto a lever from which a retractable pin projects into one of an arcuate series of holes in the mounting plate for setting the height of the tool. In Fig. 9 (not shown), a ploughshare mounted on the tractor by means of a parallelogram linkage comprising a pair of lower links connected to the hollow shaft and an upper link which is connected to the mounting plate and carries a retractable pin engageable with a series of holes in the plate.
