Abstract
A sintered carbide composition comprises:- one or more of Fe, Co and Ni } 4-15% in total. TiC 0À5-75% Solid solution of NbC and HfC, optionally containing TaC replacing up to 40% of the NbC, in an amount of 3-40%, with the balance being WC which must be present. The composition may optionally contain 0À1-0À5% VC. The ratio HfC/NbC is preferably 0À25-3, at least part of the initial carbide mixture is preferably less than 1 micron in size and the carbides may be introduced in the form of composite crystals.
