Abstract

In a fast breeder nuclear reactor power plant, a gas-turbine is driven by CO 2 gas heated in a heat exchanger in the primary circuit of which flows the reactor liquid sodium coolant. The turbine exhaust is compressed before return to the heat exchanger and a regenerative heat exchanger transfers heat from the turbine exhaust to the compressed CO 2 . Carbon monoxide or graphite may be added to the CO 2 to reduce corrosion or improve heat transfer. In a modification a two-stage gas turbine is employed with interstage heating.
