Abstract

In a corrugating machine (see heading B5A), a pair of lifting devices 18 and 17, actuated by hydraulic cylinders 100 and 101, are carried by a cylinder 70 which is reciprocable over a horizontally disposed fixed piston 71. The cylinder is provided with brake chambers 81 and 82 each of which communicates, via throttle valves 85 and 86, with the chambers 76, 77 respectively (77 not marked) located either side of the piston. The brake chambers are connected to the cylinders 100 and 101 via non-return valves 95 and 96 and the chambers 76 and 77 via braking valves 85 and 86. In operation, the cylinder is moved to the left by introducing fluid into chamber 76 via hollow piston rod 74 and apertures 72, this movement being braked when the apertures 73 become located in brake chamber 82 and the exhaust fluid has to pass from chamber 77 via throttle valve 84 to the piston rod 75 and thus out of the system. When the end point has been reached, the fluid supplied to chamber 76 flows through valve 93 and actuates the cylinders 100 and 101, the exhaust from the cylinders passing through conduit 99 valve 96 and conduit 90 to the brake chamber 82 and thus out of the system. The reverse movement of the cylinder is initiated by introducing fluid into chamber 82 and exhausting it from 76. The fluid initially passes from chamber 82 around conduit 90 and through valve 92 to chamber 77 and then passes directly to chamber 77 when aperture 73 are clear of chamber 82.
