Abstract

The invention comprises water-soluble azo dyes having a plurality of azo groups and at least one 2 -chloro -8-triazin-4-ylamino radical wherein the 6-position of the triazine nucleus is substituted by a sulpho-2-alkylanilino radical in which the nitrogen atom can carry an alkyl radical. They may be obtained (1) by reacting an o-alkylaniline containing at least one SO 3 H and which may carry an alkyl group on the N atom with a water-soluble compound containing a plurality of azo groups and at least one 2,4-dichloro-s-triazinyl-6-amino radical (2) by first reacting the o-alkylaniline with cyanuric chloride and then reacting this triazine with a water-soluble compound containing a plurality of azo groups and at least one acylatable amino group and (3) by introducing the characteristic triazine grouping into either a diazo or coupling component or both (either or both containing an azo group) prior to the formation of the final azo group in the dye. Preferred classes of dyes are those of the formul[mu] and wherein A is the radical of a diazo component, M is a 1,4-arylene radical, E is the radical of a coupling component, R is H or C 1- C 4 alkyl, E 1 is the radical of a dinaphthol or aminonaphthol capable of coupling twice with diazo components, and T is a 2-chloro-s-triazin-4-yl radical wherein the 6-position of the triazine nucleus is substituted by a sulpho-2-alkylanilino radical in which the N atom can carry an alkyl radical, and the metal complexes of dyes of formula (1). Examples are given for the production of dyes. The dyes are useful for colouring cellulose textile materials.
