Abstract

1284879 Azo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Nov 1969 [23 Dec 1968 11 July 1969] 61009/68 and 35041/69 Heading C4P New azo dyes of formula wherein one X is CN and the other is an aromatic radical connected via an azo group are prepared by coupling a diazotized aromatic amine with a compound of the above formula wherein one X is CN and the other H. The product may be metallized and/or converted by a condensation reaction into a fibre-reactive dye. Dyes containing suitable groups (e.g. tertiary amino, hydrazino or etherified hydroxylamino group) may be quaternized. In examples the preparation of mono- and dis-azo and metallized azo dyes of the above formula, which colour various natural and synthetic fibres in yellow and red shades, is described.
