Abstract

In a terry loom additional forward and rearward rotations are imparted to the take up roll 51 which in conjunction with similarly timed movements of a ground warp shifting roll 14 move the fell to produce three pick terry cloth. Normal take up is from a rocker shaft 64, through a pawl and ratchet drive 81 to a sun wheel 102 and planet wheels 103 to drive the shaft 51a. The second driving connection to produce the additional rotation in the take up roll 51 is from a terry cam 122, terry rocker shaft 116, link 114, bell crank 112 and link 110 to a second sun wheel 101. The ground warp shifting roll 14 is carried arms 130, 130a on each side of the loom (only one is shown) and is driven by a crank 115 through a link 131 from the terry rocker shaft 116 and moves in cooperation with the take up roll to move the fell. When the terry cams low surface engages its follower the link 110 moves upwardly and produces an increased take up on take up roll 51 and this occurs with a downward movement of the shifting roll 14 to allow the fell to move forwards. Thereafter, following a number of loose picks a high part of terry cam 122 produces a corresponding rearward movement, normal take up being separately operated at each pick. A pattern control swinging latch arm 140 can be operated to maintain the terry cam follower 121 out of contact with the terry cam 122 during non terry weaving operation of the loom and a pawl drive to the terry let off motion is disengaged so that the terry warps are maintained under normal tension corresponding to the tension of the ground warps during this period.
