Abstract
Polymeric foam with a flat upper surface is moulded by foaming on a conveyer belt, the sides of which move at the same rate as the conveyer and increase in height at the same rate as the foam rises to keep the top surface of the foam flat. The apparatus comprises a horizontal conveyer 1 lined with paper from reel 4. Paper from reels 5 moves along each sidewall 3 to form a lining. Paper from reels 6 passed inside the other lining, to form a second lining adhesion to the first lining being by adhesive supplied at 7. The mixture to be foamed is supplied through nozzle 7. On reaching gripper 8 (where the foaming starts), the inner layer of paper 6 is gripped and pulled off from lining 5 breaking the adhesive bond. This paper 6 is attached to forceps 9 on conveyer 10 and is raised at the same rate as the foam rises keeping the top of the foam plane. The paper 6 is then released and continues along the side of the foam block. Conveyer 9 can be moved along the line of conveyer 1 and also raised and lowered to accommodate different rates of foaming and sizes of the finished foam.
