Abstract
Disposed between the inlet 2 and outlet 3 of a valve having a body 1 is a valve seat 4, which is partially enclosed by a metal lining 20, and a cylindrical valve closure member 5, which is movable axially within a bore 6 of the body 1 towards and away from the seat 4. The top end of the closure member is formed as a helical surface 8 which co-operates with a similar surface 10 formed on a rotatable control member 9, the closure member being biased against the control member by a spring 13. Rotation of the control member 9 in an anti-clockwise direction, axially displaces closure member 5 towards its seat, rotation of the closure member being impeded by a stop 16 which is secured to the body 1 and engages a flat surface 17 extending between the beginning and end of the helical surface 8.
