Abstract

A fume cabinet comprises a lower compartment 1 having a frontal opening 3, a panel 4, retractable into a frontal compartment 5, for sealing said opening, a median compartment 12 containing gas extraction means 22, and an upper compartment 15 in which is located an air blowing conduit 16, said conduit 16 being divided into an outlet pipe 17 which may be sealed by a flap 19 and a distribution pipe 20 having outlets 21 therefrom, said pipe 20 extending into compartment 5 to telescopically engage panel 4, thus causing air, passing down the pipe 20 to flow along the panel 4 and into the lower compartment 1, preventing obnoxious gases from escaping from the cabinet opening. The sealing panel 4 comprises two panes of glass 9, 9a having between them a space 10 closed at the side and which is open at 11 and at 11a in order to constitute part of the air circulation circuit, said panel being counter-balanced by weights 6 (and 6a). The waste gas extraction shaft 22 which leads into the upper compartment 5 is linked to a water-spray scrubber 23, whose opening 24 is directed to the interior of the median compartment 12. Said median compartment, which has a bottom partition 13 in which are sets of louvres 25, 26, 27, also contains directing blades 28a, 28b, 28c which in combination with directing wall 29 help pass gas to the scrubber 23, and in combination with walls 13, 14 form a water collection channel. The fume cabinet can be made by moulding in a laminated polyester material.
